Although my ultimate goal is to meet anyone who loves Weimaraners, I am seeking some local friends, too. Are you a Fort Wayne (or Allen County, Indiana) Weimaraner owner looking for others? Me too! Let's share some stories, even get our dogs together for a good run, or swim. Let's share some advice, photos, and laughs. If you love your Weim as much as I do, you want to share it with everyone else. Please register and join Weim Talk and upload your photos to the Weimaraner Gallery!

PSST... If you're looking for pictures of Kona and Pete please go here

Late in the day on February 14th, 2009 at one year, one month, and one day old.... Kona became a woman. Yes, she's gone into heat. I cannot tell you what's "normal" or "average", but I can tell you what it's been like for us.

Warning signs for Kona that we noticed were as follows: she became swollen or puffy, she became much more affectionate (we didn't know it was possible, but believe me it was!!), she started to want to urinate much more frequently.

I cannot yet tell you how long it lasts. It'll be a week later tonight, and she's still bleeding.

And a dog in a diaper, that's just funny.

Anyway, I'll keep you posted and share a picture soon.

Okay I know I haven't been around a lot lately! I'm sorry! When I started this website, I was UNemployed. I am now employed and finding it a tad more difficult to balance work, home, and recreation on top of doing this website. That doesn't mean I am going to stop.

Anyway, Kona is nearly a year old now. I can hardly believe it. She's ornery as ever, still skinny (the vet, trainer and breeder all say she's perfect). We really miss going to the lake.

It's been difficult to walk her like I'm supposed to, but she has a coat now, and I have snow pants, so the excuses are fewer.

With winter in full force in Indiana, it's important to make sure your dog isn't left outside for too long. If you are experiencing lots of ice, be sure to check paws for signs they are sticking. If so, get some "Bag Balm" or booties. If you are walking at a normal pace, you may want to consider a coat for your weim, as I have. However, when we play hard in the back yard, she doesn't seem to need the coat as much.

It's also important to keep in mind that dehydration is just as big of a concern in the winter as it is in the summer. As your weim may be less active in the winter, she may not think to drink water after playing like she does in the summer. If you notice your weimaraner not drinking enough, put a tablespoon or so of plain non-flavored yogurt in her water, and watch her slurp it up! Works like a charm.

Aside from the Pedi-Paws, we haven't really tried any new toys or things with Kona lately. If you are curious, see the Pedi-paws article under the "Products I Love" category.

If there's something you are curious about, or a great new product you have discovered, please share it with us!

Until next time!

Training - Tips

We were bad Weimaraner owners for a while. Okay, not really.... I had justification. So here's the deal.. things were looking great for us financially, so we got our Weim. Then everything fell to poo. So up until a week ago, we had her out on the tie-out (I know what you're thinking!!!! Sssshhh!!!). I took her for regular walks/runs daily. We did not use the tie-out for her exercise, so chill. :) Finances are starting to get back on track now. We are also the type of people that really like our neighbors, so we decided to get the underground pet fence.

The basic system from Innotek arrived, we managed to cut our Fios line in the process, and went through the standard training procedures per the DVD supplied by Innotek. You know how smart weims are. It wasn't long before she started to respond to the beep on the collar. Wednesday felt like a good time to
